10 Random Things

Oh, that Matushka Anna.  She's already gotten me back to my blog once this week and now she posted this.

Well, I think I can come up with 10 things that I've never divulged on my blog pretty easily, since I'm pretty much a newbie and I've been such a slack blogger lately.

Here goes:

1. I once spent an afternoon at a cocktail party on an Australian submarine in Pearl Harbor. I ended up as the lone female in the officer's mess with all the officers, who were very, very, cheerful and friendly. :)

2. I'm learning German along with The Boy. We are using the Rosetta Stone program.  I can say "The dishes are in the sink" and "My brother is sleeping in the bedroom."

3. I actually enjoy watching old episodes of Dr. Who with The Professor and The Boy. We have watched as many of the old episodes as we can get via Netflix and we're all the way up to the Sixth Doctor.

4. I have lived my entire life in the South but I have never eaten fried green tomatoes and I hate grits.

5. I cannot decide on a favorite color.  Most of the time I say my favorite color is red, but really I love red and yellow, pink, blue, green, turquoise, etc.

6. I've always wanted a yellow house in the country. With hydrangea bushes in the yard and climbing roses all over the place.

7. I love terriers. One of these days I'd like to have either another Westie (I had one many years ago) or a Cairn.

8. I've been to Hawaii 4 times! (I can hardly believe this myself.)

9. I am ambidextrous to a certain extent, which means I end up getting confused a lot. I write with my left hand and I guess my left hand is my dominant hand, but I can't use a pair of "left-handed" scissors. I sew and crochet with my right hand. We went out to play Frisbee the other evening and I was throwing the Frisbee with my right hand without even thinking about it.  I also have a hard time telling my right hand from my left hand and I'm terrible at trying to give directions or read a map etc.

10. I quite regularly forget how old I am - partly because I have spent 6 years telling everybody that I'm 39 (Ha!)and partly because I really do not feel any older now than I did when I was 39, or 27, or 18.

  1. I haven't had fried green tomatoes, but I *love* cheese grits. (:

I forget how old I am too. Isn't that odd? You never forget how old you are when you're ten.

    Thanks for the list!

  2. I had never heard of fried green tomatoes until the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" came out. Maybe it's more of a "Deep South" tradition. I'm from the Mid-South. :)

  3. Christ is Risen! Thanks for visiting my blog! I grew up in Western Michigan but now live in Ottawa with my Cat. Lovely list. I am so directionally challenged. Actually after yet another great phone conversation with my Mom tonight, she told me that I must NEVER NEVER EVER try to get a job that involves driving. She reminded me of how I got lost just driving to the mall. Don't you remember Elizabeth, how you went the OTHER WAY and got TOTALLY LOST? Man, she laughed me out of my interview blues in no time flat! :) I don't think I am as ambidextrous as you are but if I am riding in the front seat of a car and someone asks me which way to turn, I have to look at my hands, figure out which one makes the L with my thumb and first finger and then I know that is Left... :)

I like your blog by the way, saw your old post of blog comparison; your blog is great as is so don't worry over that okay :)

  4. I used to live about 10 miles from the original "Fried Green Tomatoes" diner.

The secret's in the sauce. (:

  5. I have lived the same places you have (mostly) and I hate tomatoes. But how I can hold my head up and proudly call myself a Southerner is by saying that I loooooove grits. : )

And I would venture to say that Momma never knew about #1. I didn't either...you must share.... ; )

  6. Oh yes, Mother knew about #1. I told everybody all about that day. It was probably the most memorable day I had while I served as a BSU summer missionary that year. I'm surprised you don't remember me telling about it.

  7. "Secret's in the sauce" is what the person at the diner told the sheriff as he complimented the ribs. If you haven't watched the movie, I both don't want to give it away or gross you out!

  8. Well, I didn't want to give it away, either! But it did gross me out when you posted that... LOL!

  9. I had to add mine in at Mat. Anna's, I'm having too much fun reading everyone else's, here it is:

    1. My favorite snack is Twizzler's and Orange Juice. The kid in me still likes to bite off the tops and bottoms and drink the juice through the straw- if you haven't yet, try it... your kids will think you're even weirder than you already are.

    2. I do not always set a good example for my kids. (That's right, I am not perfect and I've accepted that)

    3. My blog was intended to be 'our' blog. A collaboration with my husband, unfortunately I took over with my, "Gee, I think that's interesting" or "I think I'll share that today" logic. It's turned into nothing of what we originally conjured up.

    4. I used to be awful at Geography. But, I would use my secret way of passing it off that I'm slightly aware of where someone would be referring to by using my clue of whether I've known the place to be either hot or cold and usually get by with, "That's in the southern hemisphere right?" Note: On reflecting of what I've just written, I think it may be safer to just ask where exactly that is but again, if you're awful at Geography what help will that do? Better to just stay clear of those conversations or just politely nod.

    5. I once thought that a concoction was the name of an actual dish.

    6. Most of my wardrobe is either extremely faded or contain stains.

    7. I always resist the urge to try and convert the bible bangers/JW's knocking at my door- and I'm slightly mixed up on whether that's a good or a bad thing.

    8. I often paraphrase southern speech. I.E. "Well I'll be dawggone" or "Ya don say"

    9. I was once bitten on the butt by a dog. Note: There's no sign of evidence- that I can see.

    10. I don't use nail polish, makeup or any extra bodily substance that isn't shampoo or lotion and my family still thinks I'm beautiful.
